Blog Assignment #5

It’s about time to discuss a controversial, yet it shouldn’t be controversial, topic of climate change. The rising temperature has some benefits. It hasn’t been cold in some parts of Texas where it should be cold, which can be seen as a positive thing. Some people go outside and enjoy the lovely, hot blazing weather due to the change in climate. What some people don’t realize is that this hot weather we have been having, or yet the crazy hurricanes that have been invading and destroying parts of the U.S. and its territories, is caused by us...humans. There have been claims that humans aren’t the primary cause of the change in our climate with no scientific evidence. I believe that humans are responsible for climate change, even if the high almighty Trump and his administration claim that we aren’t the cause.

Even though it is hard to admit it, humans are the dominant cause of the global temperature rise. The average temperatures have increased 1.8 °F. This very minimal increase in temperature may seem insignificant, however the record-breaking weather events and extreme temperature say otherwise. There have been many scientific reports claiming we are the primary cause of this minimal rise in temperature as a result of us driving cars, factories we operate, and basically anything that destroys the environment according to 13 federal agencies. I support the scientific reports and the conclusion that we are responsible for these climate changes. For some reason, the high officials of the Trump administration are claiming the complete opposite of the scientific reports. A notion of curiosity rises...where is the administration getting their information. They certainly aren’t getting the information from our scientists who claim we are responsible.

We can refer to the hurricanes that have either hit the U.S or hit U.S. territories. Hurricane Irma, Jose, Maria, and Harvey were all Category 3 hurricane on a scale of 1 to 5. I don’t think it is a coincidence that these category 3 hurricanes are a result of the climate change. Despite al that has happened, Trump and his administration continue to deny humans are the primarily responsible for climate change. How many more hurricanes or storms will it take to convince the administration that we are responsible? They are more worried about passing the tax reform bill since it threatens trumps presidency.

Pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, appointing Scott Pruitt as E.P.A. administrator, and appointing Rick Perry as the energy secretary are preventing our efforts from stopping this rise in climate change. Federal agencies have conducted scientific research to prove my argument. If I am able to listen and understand what the data says, why can’t the Trump administration do the same thing? They all have the power to change the mistakes we have made. Now we are living in the consequences of climate change with these catastrophic, life threatening storms. At the same time, it is killing our planet and its people. We have the tools and the science to fix these mistakes. Unfortunately, the power and the tools are being used by the people who don’t understand the importance of sustaining our planet.

    1. Sorry, having technical difficulties. Here goes:

I agree with you entirely. I believe that the recent hurricanes are of much more importance to us here in Texas, to the people in Puerto Rico, and to the people in Florida than new tax laws or birth control debates, at least for right now. I also believe that the politicians who are in power currently have consistently proven that they are only worried about their next campaign and getting votes. I think that the Trump campaign is mostly worried about keeping their people in office, and so they are only talking and trying to pass laws which benefit their cause. They know that most people think that there is nothing that can be done about preventing the natural disasters, so they don't bother to even bring it up. I think that this falls under the "Non-governmentally-educated people voting" heading, and it's something that could be rectified if everyone were taught the basics of Government. Aside from that obvious solution, one of the things we can do as members of everyday society is try to bring awareness to the people around us. Really corny, I know, but I think it could work. Even if they don't believe it, if you put a suggestion into a person's head, it is very hard to get rid of it.
