Blog Stage 7

A prevalent issue affecting the U.S. national government is the debate on gun legislation and control. Despite mass shootings which have plagued the U.S., little has been done to prevent such instances occurring in the future. Largely due to the national Rifle Association (NRA), Congress has been unable to pass bills to make it more difficult for individuals to own firearms. In order to resolve this issue, drastic actions need to be taken. Whilst this issue cannot be solved overnight, it can be solved in stages. The first stage would be to prevent bump stocks being available to civilians, as these are able to turn semi-automatic weapon into what is effectively an automatic weapon. This could reduce the body count in mass shootings; for example, the death toll of the las Vegas shooting can largely be attributed to the shooter’s use of bump stocks. Next powerful weapons should be removed from the market; this includes shotguns and semi-automatic rifles. Finally, pistols could be removed.

Commenting on Gabrielle Suzanne Blog Stage 5

After reading Legalization of... , written by Gabrielle Suzanne, I agree with her entirely. Her mentioning of statistical information to support her argument is an excellent idea since it supports the logic of legalizing marijuana as a way to improve the U.S. and state economies. Also talking about research studies to support the fact that we will have a better federal budget is an excellent way to strengthen her argument. In fact, we know more about marijuana than we actually think we do. We know that cannabis is smoked widely in many countries, more concentrated in Western countries. Today, there have been no reported cases of lung cancer of emphysema attributed to smoking marijuana. In all honesty, inhaling a day’s dose is less threatening than breathing in a city’s poor air quality to people’s health. If she mentioned more insight about marijuana usage, she would have a stronger argument since she would be focusing on how marijuana isn't that life threatening. Mentioning prov

It’s about time to discuss a controversial, yet it shouldn’t be controversial, topic of climate change. The rising temperature has some benefits. It hasn’t been cold in some parts of Texas where it should be cold, which can be seen as a positive thing. Some people go outside and enjoy the lovely, hot blazing weather due to the change in climate. What some people don’t realize is that this hot weather we have been having, or yet the crazy hurricanes that have been invading and destroying parts of the U.S. and its territories, is caused by us...humans. There have been claims that humans aren’t the primary cause of the change in our climate with no scientific evidence. I believe that humans are responsible for climate change, even if the high almighty Trump and his administration claim that we aren’t the cause. Even though it is hard to admit it, humans are the dominant cause of the global temperature rise. The average temperatures have increased 1.8 °F. This very minimal increase in t

In the article One Nation, In Sickness And In Health written by Michael Winship, he makes an argument that President Trump is ruining our health care system not by promising a new so called replaceable one, but by degrading and deconstructing Obamacare. He also argues that Trump is running our country and government into the ground by creating policies on the merits of incompetence, ego, and petty vengeance of scraping Obama’s name in the dirt. This article is intended for the people who believe the Trump administration, and Trump himself, that they are doing everything they can to provide “better” healthcare to U.S. citizens. We can also consider Congress as an intended audience since this article is meant to inform the readers of the status of our healthcare system, and to persuade Congress make the morally right steps for our healthcare system. The author of this article is a senior writer of Moyers & Company, and he served as the president of the Writers Guild of America, w

In the article Trump needs China on North Korea but he's doing it wrong , written by Max Baucus and Ryan Hass, they state that the tensions between the U.S. and North Korea are very dangerous and should be addressed strategically in as a diplomatic, peaceful method as possible. After trump tweeted “I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man…” at the UN meeting, it added further complications to come to a negotiation with North Korea and China by showing that Washington isn’t in lockstep with its partners to stop this conflict. This article is intended for Congress, and the Trump Administration, to come up with a strategy on how to deal with issue. The authors of this article are certainly wealthy, educated people who have experience with creating diplomatic strategies for foreign relations. Max Baucus served as U.S. Ambassador to China from 2014-2017, along with 36 years as a U.S. Senator from Mont
Blog Assignment #2 The Washington Post published an article called McCain says he will vote no on GOP health-care bill, dealing major blow to repeal effort . As some of you may know, the GOP is trying to replace the Affordable Care act with their own version of a health-care bill. This has put an enormous amount of stress for the people who won’t be able to get access to the health care they need. Fortunately, there is hope that this bill might not go through. Senator John McCain announced Friday that he does not support the GOP trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. This statement has significantly, along with other senator supporting McCain like Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Rand Paul. There have been many efforts from the GOP, especially President Trump, trying to reconsider their decisions. I think this article is worth the read because it informs the people of who is standing up against the Republicans in passing the GOP health-care bill, and what our future will be like
